hi, i'm camilla + i'm from northern california.
folsom, like the folsom prison?
kinda near sacramento,
it's the best hometown ever.
i always introduced myself this way in college, on dates, introductions.
i actually dated a guy who told me i had too much pride for folsom.
like i said, i dated him.
it's an hour or so from the ocean + an hour or so from the mountains.
+ just about anywhere in folsom,
you're always five or ten minutes away from the lake or a river.
let me tell you what it was like growing up in "wholesome folsom."
i went to natoma station elementary, stayed there until 6th grade.
i had snail races,
groovy greek days,
field trips to coloma + sly park,
a teacher who didn't believe in the word "done,"
i was picked to be on the special team who played against the teachers for kickball,
countless hours of teatherball
+ i'm still friends with my kindergarden teacher.
i played with the neighborhood kids
+ woke up early to feed horses with my best friend in the undeveloped land behind beth's house.
i played in creeks off the bike paths
+ released 12cent goldfish from petsmart into the wetlands in broadstone.
i played soccer when i was 5,6,7 with girls i went to high school with.
i went to folsom high school where there were almost as many seagulls as students.
mormon bench.
i jumped big tit a few times.
i went to the "bathroom" during A lunch.
i went to the rope swings,
sutter street for thursday night markets,
senior sunrise at beal's point,
went to the sketchy bowling alley
+ laughed at the flavored condoms they had for 25cents in the bathroom.
i biked more than i walked.
i went to parties, i planned parties, i rocked at parties.
i made out in "heaven." (who hasn't)
mormon dances were the monthly highlight 14-17.
i went to the river,
i went to the lake,
i was a lifeguard,
a swim instructor.
i was in jazz choir.
i played in parks past curfews,
went to one too many late nighters at in n out.
i went to countless pool parties,
i borrowed more chocolate chips, eggs and flour than is probably socially acceptable from neighbors.
i had my trees, my hills, my sun + my lake.
i got engaged in folsom,
i got married in folsom.
i guess what i'm getting at is that i feel like i had a beautiful childhood + youth
because of folsom,
because of the community,
because of the people.
+ i guess that's why it makes that list of best places to raise a family ;)
but folsom is changing, building, expanding
+ when i visited it a few weeks ago,
i knew i need to take some pictures in the hills that change with every season
+ sort of say my hippie goodbye to memories of sneaking over fences to run in these fields + chase wild horses + cows,
because years + years + years from now when this place is way too big for me to recognize as the suburbs that i grew up in, i'll pull out these pictures + think
+ man, did we have it so very very good.
#myhometownfolsom
as i finished up this blogpost, I thought, how cool would it be to see folsom through another's eyes. everyday someone has a totally different perceptive on what goes on,
so i thought, why not do a little social experience + see what others see about our hometown.
so let's see what you experiences about #myhometownfolsom
ps.
this doesn't give folsom justice.
pps.
i couldn't not have a jumping picture
girl, i'm from vacaville!! heard of it? same area! i'm working in sacramento this summer :) folsom is a great place :)

We moved here from a small village in England almost two years ago. I love the river/lakes, Old Town, the Powerhouse and that there are still mom 'n pop businesses here like Mary's Gold Miner Cafe and Handley's Western Wear.
